New Support group for parents/carers of children with ADHD

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS ) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD ) team are in the process of setting up a new Support group for parents/carers of children with ADHD. This group is open to all parents/carers who have a child who is under the care of the CAMHS ADHD service and will run once a month.

The aim of the group is to offer a place for parents and carers to meet, have a cuppa, and offer friendship and support to each other as well as access support from the ADHD team. There are plans to offer information and training sessions on topics such as ADHD and associated conditions, managing behaviour, sleep, medication, educational issues etc. this will be delivered by the ADHD TEAM/CAMHS clinicians or outside speakers.

The first group will be held on:

Wednesday 8 June 1pm -2:30pm
at:
Freshney Green Primary Care Centre – ground floor meeting room
Sorrel Road, Grimsby, DN34 4GB

Please report to the main reception on the ground floor where you will be greeted. The first session will be very informal and will be an opportunity to find out what parents would like from the group.

The group will be facilitated by Sarah Harding (ADHD Specialist Nurse) and Melodie Watters (CAMHS Group Worker).

So far there has been a very positive response from parents and we hope that the group will be helpful and well supported.

Any parents of young people aged 18-25yrs (or the young person themselves if they are over 18yrs) who have previously been under the ADHD service are welcome to attend as the services for this age group are known to be limited or non-existent.

Please pass on the details to anyone you feel might be interested..
